Xamk is a Discrimination-Free Zone – We are Committed to Promoting Equality and Preventing Discrimination
- We treat everyone equally: We strive to treat students and staff members as inviduals and equally, regardless of their background.
- Tunnistamme ja muutamme käytäntöjä, jotka voivat asettaa ihmiset eriarvoiseen asemaan.
- We fix iniquities: We identify and amend practices that can put people in an unequal position.
- Promoting equal opportunities: We recognize that equal treatment alone is not enough, thus we modify structures and practices to be truly equal.
- Skill development: We offer our staff and students training on equality and human rights.
- Clear procedures to prevent discrimination: We have a system for filing and processing discrimination reports, and it is regularly communicated within the organization.
- Promoting equality systematically: Our operations are based on equality and non-discrimination plans, the effectiveness and impact of which is constantly monitored.
- Open discussion and communication: We continue the discussion about being a discrimination-free zone, what it means and how it can be implemented together.
- Safer Space Principles: In all our facilities and events, we operate in accordance with our Safer Space Principles.
The Discrimination-free Zone signs are a part of a nationwide campaign that promotes equality and prevents discrimination, bullying and harassment. Participating in the campaign means that Xamk is committed to creating an open and safe environment for everyone, regardless of the person’s gender, age, origin, nationality, language, religion, belief, opinion, family relationships, health, disability, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics.
More than 2,000 organizations in Finland have joined the campaign, which was established by, among others, the Ministry of Justice, and the Finnish League for Human Rights. The UN International day for Tolerance, celebrated on November 16, reminds us all of the importance of respecting human rights as the basis of peace and sustainable development.
