Explore Mannerheim’s Saloon Car in VR

The Mannerheim’s Saloon Car VR application offers an immersive virtual reality experience of Marshal C.G.E. Mannerheim’s historic railway carriage, used in the second world war between 1939 and 1946. Developed by Xamk Game Studios as part of the ARMikkeli project, in collaboration with the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, the application is available for free on multiple platforms. This VR application allows users to virtually step inside Mannerheim’s saloon car, meticulously recreated with 3D graphics. Users can examine historical artifacts, documents, photo albums, film clips, and listen to period radio broadcasts. The application supports both Finnish and English languages.

During the Winter War, Mannerheim traveled nearly 79,000 kilometers in his saloon car. The actual carriage is preserved at Mikkeli railway station and is open to the public once a year on June 4th, coinciding with the Finnish Defence Forces Flag Day and Mannerheim’s birthday.
