Entrance examinations

Xamk is involved in the International UAS Exam, a joint digital entrance exam of the Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS), in spring applications. Some programmes at Xamk arrange their own entrance exams.

Entrance examinations

August 2025 intake

  • The following degree programmes at Xamk are involved in the International UAS Exam in the Joint application:
    • Bachelor of Business Administration, Digital International Business
    • Bachelor of Engineering, Bioproduct Technology
    • Bachelor of Engineering, Efficient Supply Chain Management
    • Bachelor of Engineering, Water Technology and Sustainability
    • Bachelor of Engineering, Information Technology
    • Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing, Kotka
    • Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing, Savonlinna
  • Student selection is based on entrance examination points. Online entrance examination consists of two parts. The minimum score for a passed examination: 50/100 points. Every given task must be completed successfully. In addition, English language skills are assessed in the exam.
  • Part 1: Instructions are sent out to all applicants by email after the joint application period. Online entrance examination dates 29 January – 3 February 2025. The first part includes two tasks. You must pass each task with minimum points in order to qualify in the selection process. If you do not pass the first task, your second task will not be assessed. The tasks must be uploaded to the application form on Studyinfo.
  • Part 2: 63 applicants with the best points of Part 1, will be invited to Part 2. The second part of the examination is an online entrance examination 17 March 2025. The Part 2 exam includes two tasks and a group interview. You must pass each task with minimum points in order to qualify in the selection process. If you do not pass both the first and second task of Part 2, your third task will not be assessed.
  • The entrance examination for Game Design consists of game design tasks that involve presenting one’s ideas in written and visually. The evaluation criteria vary from task to task but involve mostly some of the following: idealization skills, creativity and imagination, logical thinking, presentation skills (ability to communicate and illustrate one’s ideas both in written and visually), storytelling skills, drawing skills and quality of work.
  • The entrance examination is a selection method used in Joint application, spring 2025.
  • The examination is organised online and it includes two parts.
    • Part 1 is a written exam organised on 12 February 2025 online on Xamk Open Learn environment. The written exam is based on material and measures information processing. More information will be given in the invitation to the exam.
    • Part 2 is an interview. Interviews are organised on 5 March 2025, online via Teams application. Eligible applicants with the best points of the written exam, will be invited to the interview.

Individual arrangements

You may request individual arrangements for entrance examinations on particular grounds. Individual arrangements can be granted for the International UAS Exam in January application. 

Requests concerning the International UAS Exam must be submitted to the university of applied sciences/study programme using the International UAS Exam that is first on your application formPlease check details regarding the International UAS Exam on UASinfo website.

The request for individual arrangements must be submitted by 29 January 2025, 3 pm Finnish time (UTC +2).

You are notified of the granted arrangements by email. The announcement on individual arrangements for the entrance exam is exam-specific and valid only in that particular entrance exam.

Requests for individual arrangements sent after the deadline are processed only in acute, exceptional cases. Individual arrangements cannot be granted if the request is submitted too late, with regard to the timetable of the entrance examination, or individual arrangements are otherwise deemed impossible to arrange.

After you have got the final admission results in joint application, you can request adjustment to the decision on individual arrangement as a part of student selection appeal procedure.

Attachments to the request for individual arrangements

Attach to the request a medical or expert opinion, which will tell why and what kind of individual arrangements you need. An official translation of the document into English, Finnish or Swedish is additionally required, if the document is not originally written in one of the mentioned languages.

The issuer must have sufficient professional qualifications to assess your operational limitations and the needs of individual arrangements. For example, due to an injury or illness, a person requesting individual arrangements should attach a medical certificate to the request.

The expert opinion must

  • Contain the reason why you need individual arrangements (possible diagnoses and other justifications for requesting support measures)
  • Specify what kind of individual arrangements are recommended for you,
  • Include your personal data
  • Include the name and position of the issuer (profession/expert role), and
  • Include a date of issue.

The term of validity of the statements is considered on a case-by-case basis depending on the persistence of injury, illness or learning difficulty. For dyslexia, statements acquired at or after the age of 16 are considered.

Be prepared to present original certificates at the start of the studies if you are admitted. Information on the health of the applicant is confidential (Article 24 of Act on the Openness of Government Activities).
