Xamk Offers Higher Education Preparatory Programs for Immigrants

The aim of these programs is to help students improve their Finnish language skills and strengthen their readiness for higher education studies and working life in Finland.

The programs are conducted online, making them flexibly accessible from anywhere in Finland. The language of instruction is Finnish.

One of the programs is multidisciplinary and introduces students to various fields of study, while the other is focused specifically on preparing for studies in the field of health and social care.

The programs are intended for immigrants who are planning to apply to a university of applied sciences or a university in Finland and want to improve their Finnish language skills and other competencies needed for academic studies. Participants are required to have at least a B1 level in Finnish and eligibility to apply for higher education studies according to Finnish legislation.

– In these programs, students will strengthen their Finnish language skills, digital and study skills, and their knowledge of mathematics and English. The program also provides information about the Finnish higher education system, different fields of study, and working life in Finland, says Senior Lecturer Sirpa Juusola from Xamk.

Participation in the program does not provide direct access to degree studies; students must apply separately to their desired degree program through, for example, the national joint application or separate application processes.

The application period for the preparatory programs is 21 April–2 May 2025, and entrance exams will be held in May. The studies will take place from 18 August to 31 December 2025.
