Safer space principles
In order to promote equality, we have developed our own practices, one of which is the principles of a safer space.
The purpose of the principles of a safer space is to create a supportive and non-threatening environment where everyone can feel comfortable and confident expressing themselves without fear of discrimination.
We want to ensure at Xamk that everyone feels good in their studies and work.
The achievement of a safer space needs action from us all
Written, transparent principles support participants, facilitate intervention in problem situations, and bring out the organization’s values and operating principles. The safer space principles apply to all events, activities, and facilities at Xamk and should be respected by everyone.
I am responsible for high quality interactions

I listen and give space

- I try to show that I am present.
- I encourage everyone to express their own opinion.
- I respect the privacy of others.
I respect individuality
- I accept that we are all different and treat everyone in a fair and equal way.
- I recognise my own assumptions and biases and challenge them.
- I do not make assumptions based on how someone looks, acts, or behaves.
- I respect the physical and mental boundaries of others and their autonomy.
- I understand that I cannot know the boundaries of others without asking them first.
- I ask for my own space when I need it.
I do not tolerate discrimination or harassment
- I promote a sense of community.
- I address any incident of discrimination, harassment and inappropriate treatment whenever possible.
- I offer my support to others who have experienced harassment or discrimination.
- I report any harassment or discrimination I have witnessed or experienced to the appropriate channel.
