Environmental testing
Environmental testing helps to ensure the durability and performance of products and materials under different operating and environmental conditions.
Accelerated and natural ageing
Testing of materials for weathering
We use environmental chambers with a test temperature range of -40….+180 °C, with a relative humidity control range of 10….98 %. We investigate the effect of light on materials by UV and xenon light testing.
At the Mikkeli campus, we also carry out standardised long-term natural ageing test cycles outdoors. At the environmental field we have continuous monitoring of conditions, including UV radiation, temperature, relative humidity and precipitation. For UV measurement we use high quality measuring equipment from Kipp & Zone. We monitor weather conditions with a Vaisala NM10 weather station.
To test the corrosion resistance of materials, we have a salt spray cabinet with continuous salt spray and the possibility of cyclic corrosion tests.
In addition, we have xenon and UV condition test equipment which, in addition to the radiation output, can adjust the temperature, humidification and precipitation either cyclically or continuously. If required, we can build UV stress test equipment to meet customer requirements.
The condition chambers can also be used for combined tests, where specimens are moved from one condition chamber to another.
The most common test equipment used by Mikpolis for testing the conditions of materials:
- Vötsch VC 4020 environmental cabinets, 2 pcs
- -40…+180 C°, 10…98 % RH
- volume: 575 mm x 550 mm x 645 mm
- Arctest 1500 -weatherproof cabinet with UV and sprinkler system
- -10…+80 C°, 20…95 % RH, syklinen testaus

- Outfield, which includes weather and uv measurement
- 2 racks, sample area 200 cm x 400 cm
- Room for equilibration of samples
- 0…+60 C°, 20…95 % RH
- volume: 224 cm x 134 cm x 194 cm
- Elcometer 1120-BS2 salt spray cabinet
- volume: 400 l
- Q-Panel Q-SUN Xe-3-HHS xenon cabinet
