Virtual Construction

The Virtual Construction project developed new kind of digital processes and business concepts for the construction industry.

The project is finished.

In the Virtual Construction project, the aim is to renew processes in the construction industry towards open, collaborative, and virtual practices and enable the use of advanced building information models (BIM) during the whole life cycle of construction projects. Current advanced game engines (e.g. Unity, Unreal Engine) are utilized for developing new tools for collaborative, open, and crowdsourced design and maintenance of buildings. The project also aims at studying the utilization of new display technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in visualizing building information models. In addition, the aim is to develop advanced simulations, for example, for modeling human activities carried out in buildings. Based on the developments in the project, novel business concepts for service business are designed.
