Verstas CO2
South Savo companies' path to carbon neutrality
Measuring and reducing the carbon footprint of companies is a good way to demonstrate climate responsibility and to challenge established business models.
Reducing the carbon footprint of companies
In the Verstas CO2 project, companies are helped in measuring their carbon footprint and are guided to the introduction of environmental systems to reduce the companies’ carbon footprint and environmental impact. Reducing the carbon footprint is realized by developing the companies’ business processes in Verstas workshops and other meetings.
Responsible operations must be part of the company’s strategy if the company wants to grow and exist in the future as well.
The company’s ESG activities and responsibility reporting are seen not only as mandatory obligations guided by directives, laws and standards, but also as an opportunity. A systematic and long-term review of operations helps organizations develop and increase their competitiveness.
The main measures of the project
WP 1 Measuring the companies’ carbon footprint and conducting material reviews to reduce the companies’ carbon footprint and environmental impact. Carbon footprint and life cycle calculations are carried out by project experts and XAMK students. Reducing the carbon footprint is realized by developing the business processes of companies in Verstas workshops and other meetings. The means are operations according to Lean, digitization, robotics, automation, artificial intelligence.
WP 2 Promotion of fast and agile experiments and pilots that improve competitiveness and support low carbon, as well as presenting them to a larger group of companies in the region in business and technology boosting workshops. In the work package, new tools are developed for companies, with which companies gain sustainable efficiency and a competitive advantage in operational business. The result is 10 new technology-focused agile experiments in cooperation with production companies, startup companies and educational organizations in the region (the main focus of the experiments is digitalization, material and energy efficiency, striving for carbon neutrality) .
WP 3 Promotion of industrial symbioses. Workshops to promote industrial symbioses as part of Motiva Oy’s network of regional coordinators and follow-up work after the workshops: 1-3 pieces as needed. The workshops are implemented in accordance with Motiva’s FISS industrial symbioses model on site or online. Miksei and Xamk are jointly responsible for the implementation, Motiva is involved in the implementation. The goal is at least 2 new industrial symbiosis during the project.
