Waste and side streams as a business opportunity
The aim of the Stones for Circulation project is to activate the construction industry and the concrete industry to utilize the region’s RDI actors and environments in their product development and in the renewal of their own operations.
The project’s measures will help the region’s industry to remain competitive now and in the future.
Well-known RDI-activities
The impressive and well-known RDI-activities and environment created as a result of the project measures will enable the expansion of RDI-infrastructure in the future, the development of competence will also promote the attractiveness of the area from the perspective of companies.
Key measures of the project
By increasing the utilization potential of concrete waste and side streams suitable for binders, the profitability of the companies that produce or process these will also be improved. The results and know-how accumulated during the project will be used to create new business opportunities for companies in the region and industry, value chains between companies, operating opportunities for new companies to join the value chain, and jobs created in companies. The project focuses on finding solutions for the utilization of recycled materials, side streams and wastes in concrete so that the carbon footprint of concrete production can be reduced.
Creating value chains is crucial for new businesses and start-ups utilizing bio-product design. The processing of industrial side streams into a sufficiently uniform, active form for use in the manufacture of cement-free binders, as well as the manufacture and packaging of actual binders, open up opportunities for new operators to join the concrete production environment and thereby also promote the creation of new business in Kymenlaakso.
