The Logistics Center as an RDI and learning environment

The project explored and highlighted the needs of the logistics sector in the Kymenlaakso region, where R&D and investment should be directed.

The project has been completed.

Results

As a result of the project, there are identified the possibilities offered by the logistics center and the related functions for various stakeholders in perspective of RDI and education. In addition, regional expertise and strengths are identified, as well as areas for development and interaction between students of different levels, companies and research institutes, and how all parties will further benefit from cooperation. As a result of the project, areas were identified where RDI efforts and investments should be made in order to increase the viability and attractiveness of companies and educational institutions in the region. The result is a networked operating model that can be used as a tool to increase competitive advantage and improve viability. Through growth and the right direction of investment in RDI, the working conditions of companies and the viability of the region can be improved.

The project has been funded from the European Regional Development Fund Sustainable growth and work 2014–2020 structural program. The total budget of the project is €109,860 and the project will be implemented between July 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023.

This is how we reached our goals

The project activity consists of five parts:

  1. Review of best practices in previous RDI and learning environment projects
  2. Review of best practices from Europe – Case Euralogistics
  3. Identifying business needs of Kymenlaakso’s logistics sector
  4. Development and piloting of the operating model in teaching
  5. Summary of reports and creating of an operating model

Objectives

The aim of the project is to support the viability of Kouvola and Kymenlaakso, especially the flagship project RRT, as well as the growth of the related logistics sector through the activities of RDI and the proper allocation of investments. The project outlines the targets where RDI and investments should be made so that companies can develop and create new business or new companies. The project explores the possibilities of how different educational institutions in the region can utilize the RRT region as a physical or virtual environment  for RDI and learning, while creating benefits and knowledge for companies in the logistics sector. The measures taken in the project also aim to identify ways to promote carbon neutrality and switch to green logistics in Kymenlaakso, as well as to accelerate intelligence and digitalization.
