Kira Circularis

In the Kira Circularis project six Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland (Metropolia, XAMK, Karelia, Turku, Tampere and Oulu) will open their research and laboratory environments in the promotion of the circular economy for SMEs. The project aims to have a wide impact around numerous circular economy topics (material circulation, building parts to be reconstructed and demolition of buildings) and a large national cooperation network with several different cities, projects, organizations and other stakeholders. The project creates a new type of ecosystem that supports the circular economy of companies in the construction industry and the main goal of cooperation is to launch new products, services and innovations to the field of the built environment.

This is what we do!

The main measures of the project

The project aims to create a strong network between companies and universities of applied sciences.
The aim is to establish a chain of action for the development of a new product from a demolition product or a reinvestment of a recycled demolition product. There must be a clear standard for determining the suitability of a new site or a new use.
The calculation of the carbon footprint of the different options is a key element of the project.
Determining the remaining lifetime of a product or structure.
