Circular economy for books and textiles in Savonlinna
The Kiertoisa -project enhances the circular economy of the discarded textiles and books along easily accessible collection channels to further recycling or reuse in Savonlinna.
New innovations for utilizing end-of-life textiles and books
Piloting and demonstrating new ideas for business
The project will create a business network, which aims to sell products from recycled materials to consumers or for further processing. The development of new products is supported by innovating and networking.
Xamk pilots and demonstrates new product ideas from materials derived from books and textiles. A carbon footprint calculation is made for selected and piloted product ideas.
Raising awareness on reusing and recycling
As a result of the collaboration, awareness of consumers and companies on circular economy will increase, which helps society act by mitigating climate change and promoting the material circulation. The results of the project will be available to producers and consumers in the reuse markets. The results promote sustainable circular economy practices throughout the South Savo region.
Kiertoisa is a joint project of the Savonlinnan Toimintakeskus Ry (activity center association in Savonlinna), Itä-Savon koulutuskuntayhtymä (Samiedu Vocational College), and the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences.
Activities
Xamk participates in the implementation of activities 1-3:
WP 1: Increasing the recycling rate of books and end-of-life textiles collected from the Savonlinna sub-region.
WP 2: Raise consumer awareness of the recycling potential of textiles and books and the environmental impact of recycling.
WP 3: Creation of a network of companies aiming to sell recycled materials to consumers or further processing.
