5G HEARRT

Testing of modern 5G network

The project includes construction a modern 5G SA FWA network at the Pyhtää airport and the Kouvola railway and road terminal

FWA is a new technology manifestation of the 5G eMBB (enhanced mobile Broadband) service, which is tested in this project

Testing use cases

When the 5G SA FWA technology is found to be working, it will be possible to build similar networks much cheaper than traditional private networks. This gives opportunities even for implementations with a smaller budget without compromising on functionality.
This project tests use cases that have been identified as part of the 5G Smart Port project and are well suited for airport and rail road terminal environments.
An example of the remote driving experiment carried out in the previous project was driving a 40 tons wheek loader in 5G network.

Suitable use cases in this project are for example:

  1. Automatic access control:
In order to test the use case, smart cameras suitable for the purpose are acquired, which can be used to monitor the traffic in the area.
  2. Automatic safety monitoring:
In this use case, a drone acquired in the 5G Smart Port project is used to carry out autonomous flights to enhance area surveillance. Drone flight operations in both areas require a separate permit, which will be confirmed during the project.
  3. Automatic weather monitoring:
Weather sensors that can be connected to the network will be acquired, which can be used for real-time monitoring of, for example, humidity and freezing conditions in the area. This is especially useful in airport operations during takeoffs and landings when pilots can be warned of exceptional runway friction, etc. characteristics by attaching the information to the automatic weather report. Maintenance can also use weather data.
  4. Autonomous/remotely controlled operation:
The project also explores the possibilities of using remotely controlled machines in this modern 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) network.
