Open Data as a Service
Open data could enable digital renewal for firms and communities through user-friendly applications.
The project is finished.
Open Data is unprocessed, free access data released by public administrations, organizations and private individuals. The project develops new ways to open, produce, process and use open data for business. The objective is digital renewal using game design and virtual reality as tools.
The project provides hackathon events for students, firms and communities that innovate new ways to utilize open data in the development of digital applications. The themes of these events emphasize cybersecurity, smart city thinking, games and virtual / augmented reality technologies. New ideas emerging from events will be further developed with various analytical tools and game design methods. The goal is to produce visually impressive applications by utilizing game design technologies and virtual / augmented reality know-how.
As a short-term result, new open data applications and regional cooperation models will be developed. The long-term result will be a platform for open data and digital renewal to promote regional development. For students, the project provides contact with local firms, possibilities for business assignments and a convenient way to acquire credits at hackathon events.
The project is part of the larger Smart city DaaS project promoting open data utilization by Turku University of Applied Sciences, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Turku University, and South East Finland University of Applied Sciences.
