Cyber-resilient Kymenlaakso
How can we strike a balance between digital threats and benefits? How can we support the development of cyber security for businesses, their personnel, and thus strengthen our resilience against cyber threats? We seek answers and solutions to these challenges and needs in Kymenlaakso.
Towards a safer future with cyber security training and exercises.
Cyber security and Kymenlaakso
The future of cybersecurity in Kymenlaakso project focuses on actions aligned with Kymenlaakso’s transition plan, including innovative, industry-driven cybersecurity pilot projects to improve the continuity of SMEs in the region.
Without continually evolving cyber and information security, digital solutions become vulnerable and endanger business continuity and the overall functioning of society.
Collaboration networks will be established between research institutions, businesses, and organizations to promote effective RDI activities. Businesses will be supported in adopting new cyber security technology, contributing to the development of more cyber and information security-focused products, services, and production methods.
Project goals and activities
- The project will investigate the current status of information and cybersecurity in Kymenlaakso’s businesses.
- Additionally, the project will assess the threats and opportunities of artificial intelligence for regional businesses and the impact of cybercriminals offering services (Crime- As-A-Service) on local companies.
- The project will invest in a unique cyber security crisis and disruption exercise environment for businesses. The project will also produce and pilot innovative exercises within this environment. This environment will serve as a development platform for future cyber security projects, such as CyberCare Kymi. It is a secure, isolated network that will allow for joint cyber security initiatives between businesses and the university of applied sciences.
- The project aims to enhance the awareness and knowledge of cyber security and information security among Kymenlaakso’s businesses and their personnel through active and comprehensive communication and the availability of flexible cyber materials, such as online tutorials, podcasts, and videos.
- Diverse, location- independent training materials will also be provided to businesses to deepen their knowledge of cyber and digital security and support their personnel in good cyber hygiene.
- Additionally, the project will serve as the foundation for industry-driven innovation and RDI collaboration with businesses.
- A new cyber security concept, partly based on the traditional “Safety Walk” model, will be developed in collaboration with small businesses in the region.
- Cyber and digital security events will strengthen Kymenlaakso’s expertise and networking in cyber and digital security. At the same time, they will raise Kymenlaakso’s profile as an expert in cyber security and a cyber-friendly region through attractive expert and networking events.
The human factor
At the core of cybersecurity and information security is the human element. Currently, 95% of cyber threats are realised by targeting individuals, for example, through manipulative scam messages or enticing them to harmful websites.
