English-Taught Programs Remain Popular

In total, there were 11,440 applicants, an increase of approximately 5% compared to the same period last year. Xamk’s overall attractiveness ratio, or the number of first-choice applications per available place, was 3.6.

English-Taught and Online Programs in High Demand

The most popular program was the English-taught Digital International Business program, offered in Kouvola. It attracted 565 first-choice applicants and a total of 3,676 applications, with 47.1 applicants vying for each available place.

Game design programs were also popular. The second most attractive programs were Game Design in Kouvola and Game Technologies in Kotka, which was offered in English for the first time this year.

Online business administration programs taught in Finnish also attracted a large number of applicants. The Bachelor of Business Administration program in Information Systems, and the Master’s level HR, Communication, and Leadership program were among the next most popular.

– The overall increase in the number of applicants is encouraging, especially as there were nearly 11,000 fewer applicants nationwide this year. The strong demand for English-taught programs is also a positive development. We plan to offer rolling admissions for English-taught programs alongside joint application periods to ensure that international students moving to Finland have enough time to manage residence permits and immigration,” says Xamk’s CEO and President, Heikki Saastamoinen.

Results Expected by November

In the autumn application period, there were 838 places available in bachelor’s degree programs and 270 in master’s programs, for a total of 1,108 places. Applicants’ eligibility will be checked in September, and entrance exams will be held between October and November. Results from certificate-based admissions will be published on October 14, and entrance exam results will be announced by November 21. Studies will begin in January 2025.
