Other selection methods

Depending on the application and admission criteria, students may be selected also based on other methods than entrance exams or certificate-based selection. The student selection methods are confirmed separately for each application round and degree programme. 

Other selection methods include admission based on international admission tests, such as SAT test for bachelor degrees.

SAT test

Applying with the SAT test

SAT test is organised by the College Board.

To be considered for admission based on SAT test, you must

  • meet the eligibility requirement for the programme you apply to,
  • take the SAT test according to the test organiser’s instructions,
  • submit your application form and documents on Studyinfo service during the application period, and
  • have the SAT test result delivered to Xamk from the test organiser by the deadline given in the application timetable.

If you have already taken the test before and it meets the requirements for Xamk programmes, you can use your old result by ensuring it is delivered to Xamk by the deadline.

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Game Technologies, Kotka

Only the new SAT (taken after March 2016) is accepted. Xamk requires you to take the SAT test which includes the Reading test, Writing and Language test and Math test.
The essay and SAT Subject Tests are not required or considered.

A minimum score of 500 from Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and 500 from Mathematics is required for admission at Xamk. Applicants are accepted in the order of best total points.

It is your responsibility as an applicant to book a test time and to take the test early enough for the result to arrive at Xamk by the deadline.

The SAT score must arrive to Xamk Admission Services directly from the College Board. Please fill in the school code 7593 for South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) when you register for SAT. You can order score reports at any time after your test through your online account.

GMAT or GRE test

Applying with the GMAT/GRE test

To be considered for admission, you must

  • meet the eligibility requirement for the programme
  • take the GMAT or GRE test according to test organiser’s instructions
  • submit your application form and documents on Studyinfo service during the application period, and
  • have the GMAT or GRE test result delivered to Xamk from the test organiser by the deadline given in the application timetable.

If you have already taken the test before and it meets the requirements for Xamk programmes, you can use your old result by ensuring it is delivered to Xamk by the deadline.

The GMAT and GRE test results are valid for 5 years. Your test result must be valid when the application opens (Direct Application, autumn on 31 July 2024).

GMAT, GMAT Focus Edition and GRE tests are considered equivalent admission process. You can choose which test to take according to your own preference and convenience.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

Only the GMAT Total Score is relevant for the admissions. The Total Score includes the Quantitative Section and the Verbal Section. The Analytical Writing Assessment and Integrated Reasoning sections are not required or considered.

GMAT Focus Edition (GMAT Exam)

From February 2024 onwards, the GMAT Focus will be the only version of the GMAT Exam available to test takers around the world. From July 2024 onwards the test name will be GMAT Exam.

This new version of the GMAT Exam consists of three sections that all are considered for the total score: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights.

Graduate Records Examination (GRE)

The accepted GRE tests are the GRE General Test and GRE Revised General Test. The test sections required are Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. The Analytical Writing section or GRE Subject Tests are not required or considered.

The minimum score requirement for the GMAT test is 450 points. 

The result for GMAT Focus Edition and GRE test results must be equivalent to the GMAT result. These results are converted to the GMAT result with a relevant tool.

The GMAT and GRE tests can be taken at a relevant test center or online.

When scheduling your test, ensure there is enough time for your score to be available and delivered to Xamk by the given deadline. It is your responsibility to have the test result delivered to Xamk in time.

Your GMAT/GRE score must arrive to Xamk directly from the test organizer. The test reports are delivered to Xamk electronically. Choose your result to be delivered to Xamk either when taking the test or by ordering an additional score report (if you have taken the test earlier). Refer to Xamk programme/institution code when ordering the score delivery.

The official score report is available during 7-20 business days after completing the test. 

GRE Designated Institution (DI) Code for Xamk is 1352.

The official GRE General Test result will be available during 8–10 days after your test date. Scores are delivered to Xamk approximately twice a week.
