  • Student selection methods (% of study places):
    SAT test (70%), Direct application
    Certificate-based selection (20%), Joint application
    Programme’s own entrance exam (10%), Joint application
  • Entrance examination is organised on 7 November 2024 on Xamk Kouvola Campus. The examination includes a written part and an interview. The exam cannot be taken at some other time or location, or online.
  • Language requirements:
    A language certificate is not required. English language skills are confirmed based on SAT test result or prior qualification certificate, or assessed in the entrance exam.
  • Cooperation in entry exam: no
  • Previous exams available for applicants: no

  • Student selection method: programme’s own online entrance examination (100% of study places).
  • Online entrance examination consists of two parts.
  • The minimum score for a passed examination: 50/100 points. Every given task must be completed successfully.
  • The entrance examination of Game Design consists of game design tasks that involve presenting one’s ideas in written and visually. The evaluation criteria vary from task to task but involve mostly some of the following: idealization skills, creativity and imagination, logical thinking, presentation skills (ability to communicate and illustrate one’s ideas both in written and visually), storytelling skills, drawing skills and quality of work.
  • Language requirements: A language certificate is not required. English language skills are assessed in the entrance exam.

Other selection methods

Depending on the application and admission criteria, students may be selected also based on other methods than entrance exams or certificate-based selection. The student selection methods are confirmed separately for each application round and degree programme.

Other selection methods include admission based on international admission tests, such as SAT test for bachelor degrees.

Request for adjustment

According to the legislation in Finland, an applicant has a right to request for adjustment to the decision concerning student selection within 14 days of publishing the results of student admission. 

If you believe that there has been a mistake in the student selection and the admission criteria have not been applied correctly, you must first contact admission services at the university of applied sciences where the student admission decision has been made. If the decision was made at Xamk, contact: admissions@xamk.fi. 

If this does not clarify the matter, you can make a written request for adjustment to the decision regarding student admission. 

A request for adjustment must specify the name and contact information of the person making the request, the decision that the request for adjustment concerns, the points of the decision that adjustment is sought for and  the grounds for the request for adjustment. If necessary, supporting documents can be attached to the request.
