The research and development activities in Savonlinna emphasize the processes of handling wood biomass and pulp fiber, as well as the further processing into new fiber products. The fiber laboratory is located within the Savonlinna Technology Center. In addition to R&D activities, there are also engineering education programs in two fields.

Additionally, there are education programs leading to higher education degrees, and the opportunity to complement or deepen expertise through Xamk Pulse, the Open University of Applied Sciences.

In addition to the campus, Xamk has facilities at the Electronics 3K Factory as well as at the Fiber Laboratory and the Industrial Wood Construction Laboratory in Savonlinna, where students in bio-product technology and industrial wood construction engineering study.
The Fiber Laboratory is one of Xamk’s 11 research centers, focusing on biotechnology. The laboratory develops technology and innovations for the use of process and forest industries, as well as for chemical and measurement, control, and automation system manufacturers.
The Industrial Wood Construction Laboratory enables the development and testing of structures on a real scale.
The 3K Factory provides education, development, and production services in electronics.
Restaurants and facilities in Savonlinna
Savonniemi Hall on campus provides top-notch facilities for events of up to 300 people, with wireless internet and extensive audiovisual equipment. The bright lobby area is ideal for coffee breaks.
Kaarisali auditorium is perfect for meetings and training with seating for 154. It is equipped with wireless internet and audiovisual tools.
Restaurant Kaari offers a beautiful setting for events, seating up to 150 people. Located next to the auditorium, it features a piano and AV equipment, making it ideal for lectures, concerts, and celebrations. Food and coffee services can be arranged easily.
